Offline Play & Bot AI

Angels Fall First supports full offline and bot-filled matches — a major selling point after the July 11, 2026 version 1.0 launch when public server population varies by region and hour. Strangely Interactive built AI that captures objectives, crews vehicles, flies spacecraft, mans turrets, boards capitals, and even assigns squad tasks through an AI commander when no human leader is present. You can host solo listen servers, fill empty public slots with bots, or run private matches for friends without dedicated infrastructure. This guide explains offline setup options, what bots can and cannot do reliably, and a critical detail many new players miss: offline rank progression saves separately from online progression.

Offline match setup

From the main menu, create an offline or listen-server match with configurable team sizes, bot difficulty, and minimum match duration. Scenarios that work online work offline identically — Territories, Incursion, and map rotations included.

Listen servers with friends plus bot backfill let small groups experience full 64-slot battles without waiting for public queues. Hosting taxes CPU on the host machine; expect heavier load than joining a dedicated server.

What bots can do

Community and developer notes confirm bots attempt objectives, plant support items, shoot, grenade, drive ground vehicles, fly fighters, crew capital turrets, board enemy ships, and destroy interior subsystems. Quality varies — players describe them as anything from surprisingly smart to frustratingly indecisive depending on map and phase.

An AI commander assigns squad objectives when no human Command player leads. Bots respond to marks better after Update 30 intelligence passes, but still are not a substitute for coordinated human squads during contested Incursion finales.

Angels Fall First — Combined-Arms Gameplay

Separate offline and online progression

Rank and loadout unlock progress saved offline does not automatically merge with online progress — they track independently. Grind ranks in bot Territories offline, then expect a different rank profile when you join public servers.

Plan which mode you main before investing heavily in rank-gated loadouts. Use offline sessions to test presets via the Loadout Calculator without ticket pressure, then rebuild for online once you commit to public play.

Steam and DRM notes

Offline play requires Steam, and extended fully disconnected periods may need occasional Steam sign-in for DRM validation — relevant for long travel without broadband. The game itself does not require always-online connectivity for bot matches once authenticated.

Achievements and Steam stats sync when online; offline medal progress may differ until you reconnect and play eligible modes.

When bots shine after 1.0

Launch week brought a player spike, but niche combined-arms titles rarely sustain peak concurrency forever. Bot backfill keeps objectives contested when humans are scarce — treat AI as ticket pressure, not free kills.

Pair bot Territories on Errah or Majuro with official Tutorials practice arenas before jumping into human Incursion lobbies on Darsalaam or Eye of God.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play fully offline?
Yes, with bot-filled matches. Steam authentication is still required periodically for DRM.
Do offline ranks carry to online?
No. Offline and online progression save separately.
How many bots per match?
Up to 64 combined players and bots depending on host settings and map.
Are bots good enough for Incursion?
Playable and educational, but capital boarding finales lack human coordination. Great for learning phases.
Best offline mode to start?
Territories on Errah or Fortress with medium bot difficulty — teaches caps without phase shocks.
